The 60th Anniversary
In 2022, we mark 60 years of diplomatic relations between India and the European Union and 75 years since India's independence from the United Kingdom (1947). As part of the events for the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Europe, EICBI (Europe India Centre for Business & Industry), through the #EUIndia60 campaign, compiled a list of 60 legends, experts in their fields, who played a crucial role in establishing relations between the two countries over the past 60 years.
These 60 personalities are presented in a commemorative book. The book was presented at the European Parliament in Brussels on June 28, 2022, by the committee member of the parliament and head Mr. Soren Gade from Denmark. The name of Leda Shantala appears among celebrities, leading politicians, diplomats, scientists, artists, and literary figures, such as the famous musician Ravi Shankar, author and historian William Dalrymple, author Dominique Lapierre, director Peter Brook, actor Ben Kingsley, award-winning Greek scholar Nicholas Kazanas, as well as J. Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Narendra Modi, Margaret Thatcher, J. Chirac, G. Macron, A. Merkel, and many others.
In his speech, Mr. Soren Gade referred to Isaac Newton, who stated, "If I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of Giants." He expressed hope that, by standing on the shoulders of EUIndia legends, and thanks to their work, the next generation of EUIndia influencers will advance progress and discoveries in the Europe-India relationship.
